CloudFlow Technical meeting in Slovenia
From 5th to 6th of November the Technical meeting for the CloudFlow project took place in picturesque village Šmartno in Slovenia. After the official Kick-Off meeting at Fraunhofer IGD premises in Darmstadt in August, now it was Arctur's time to prove itself as a host. Arctur is the HPC specialist and infrastructure provider in the project.
The scope of the CloudFlow project is to establish a universal platform that will enable engineers to use CAD, CAM, CAE and other modeling and analysis tools with the aid of remote HPC infrastructures. The two days of the meeting were packed with interesting presentations of the findings that the project partners have achieved so far. In the time since the begging of the project in July the partners have jointly decided upon the basis of the system design and usage characteristics.
The ambitious goal of ‘cloudifing’ complex CAD and CFD simulations is with every exchange of communication between partners, closer to being fulfilled. To build upon existing successes of past EU projects the Meeting also hosted a presentation of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) and evaluated the possibilities of implementing the lessons that this grid initiative has learned to contribute to the scope of CloudFlow. The international cooperation will continue with intensive thematic meetings on various partner locations throughout Europe. The system design team is therefore soon hosting a meeting in Norway and for better understanding of CAD and CFD workflows a workshop will also be organized in France.
