Tourism 4.0
Tourism 4.0 is a new paradigm initiated at the beginning of this year by Arctur’s R&D department together with a consortium built by University of Ljubljana, Faculty of computer and information science, University of Maribor, Faculty of Tourism, University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica and Slovene National Association Of Towns and Municipalities.
Consortium’s quest is to unlock the innovation potential in the whole tourism sector by combining tourism sector resources with available technology such as IoT, big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence, VR and AR in order to leverage the current local and distributed attempts, existing solutions and initiatives running at all tourism destination levels. The aim is to create a new format of dynamic collaboration system, an innovative ecosystem, among all tourism stakeholders sprouting a new generation of tourist applications, services and processes behind built on real tourist needs and wishes.
Getting known around the world
Beside applying for national funds within the SRIP program dedicated to the support of R&D projects in Slovenia many activities have been undertaken and the concept has been presented at more occasions. To mention two, at the 13th session of the Slovenian-Chinese Commission for the Economic Cooperation in Beijing and at one of the biggest tourist events in Latin America, Tianguis Turistico, where our representatives chatted even with Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, the legend in development of the user-friendly technology.
